Why are all the first gen Audi TT’s I come across so cheap? Also what are your opinions on these cars? The concept seems like a good idea, AWD, 2 door coupe, manual, 1.8L turbocharged engine, but what causes these cars to be valued 3k-8k?

These are now old German cars, and Cherry_man1 is right - running costs likely to be high. I will admit that the redesign (gen 2) made the car look worse. I recall sitting in one car at an auto show that had leather the color of a baseball glove. There are worse places to be ....

My neighbor use to daily one and let me and my dad take a little run in it once. Fun car but I’ll side with upkeep being expensive which is why they are cheap

For what it’s worth, I believe the engine bay of my ex’s old TT caught fire at some point.

It’s probably not the only reason, but the interior was shit, and it took them a laughably long time to make things like CD players standard.

Being a German car, you need an entire set of special tools to work on it and all the parts that go wrong are probably wallet-immolating expensive.

Most aren’t AWD. The cheap ones will be FWD.

All the ones I find on my area CL seem to be Quattro. Side effect of Iowa winters

the 1.8T 20V is known to be a not too reliable motor.
That being said, it's a sexy car, and with a tune can be cranked up to 250hp!

I like them, and I think they could be a good deal and fun. Having said that, they are basically a Golf chassis underneath, with Audi repair premiums on top. The AWD is a Haldex setup, not true Quattro (torsen), so it behaves like a fwd car until there’s wheel slip.
